Can I change my pick-up or drop-off time?
Yes! Our standard pick-up time is 11:00AM, and our standard drop-off time is 12:00PM. You will have a chance to choose your preferred pick-up time with your booking to accommodate your travel plans for a morning or afternoon pick-up. Should you need to change your drop-off time, please contact us. If you require early pick-up or late drop-off for your trip outside of business hours, we recommend that you book the extra night to guarantee that the van is yours when you want it.
Where do I pick up the van?
*Please Note: The earliest you can pick up a van is 10:00 AM unless otherwise arranged ahead of your reservation. Drop-off is no later than 12:00 PM on your final day.
Do you offer one way rentals?
We do offer one-way rentals for a fee, which varies depending on location and season. Please contact us to receive a quote.
Note: One-way fees are non-transferable and will be non-refundable from the time of booking.
What comes included in our reservation?
What is your cancellation policy?
The 25% deposit required to reserve a van is fully refundable outside of 45 days prior to your trip departure (with the exception of one-way fees and itinerary deposits — see below). The remaining cost of the reservation will be charged 45 days from your departure date, at which point your payment will become non-refundable.
Moterra offers cancelation protection for additional peace of mind and flexibility within the 45-day cancelation window during these uncertain times. This can be added during the check out process for $89.
For those who do not opt for cancellation protection, any adjustments or changes to your reservation dates must be made outside of 45-days from departure. Changes within this timeframe will incur a penalty.
Should you need to cancel or reschedule your reservation due to state or federally mandated travel restrictions, provided you are not able to receive reimbursement from an insurer (trip insurance or other), and you are between 8 and 45 days of your reservation’s departure date when placing the request, we will credit your rental amount towards a future rental with us with no expiration. Please note that rentals with cancellation protection cannot be rescheduled within 7 days of departure and forfeit any credits upon cancellation.
One-way fees are non-transferable and will be non-refundable from booking.
Guests who have booked itineraries will have a $500 non-refundable deposit in the event of a cancellation outside of 45 days prior to trip departure.
What are my options for insurance? How much does it cost?
You can choose to buy comprehensive insurance from Moterra, or alternatively you can check to see if you are covered under your personal vehicle policy. Please click the above link for details and pricing on our insurance. If you decide to use your personal policy, Moterra requires an insurance binder from your insurance company, which states that you are covered for a Class B Rental at or above the total value of the van, at least 1 week prior to your reservation starting. Once you have booked your campervan, you will receive an email with a sample insurance binder you can send to your insurance company.
While Collision protection is optional (but recommended!), we do require some form of liability insurance, whether ours or yours, that meets the above requirements.
Can I park my car at Moterra while on my trip?
You can! This can be selected as an add-on for $10/night at check out.
Can you book campgrounds for me?
Yes and no! We offer itinerary services for all of our locations, with custom and package options that can be adjusted to your liking. With all itineraries, we take care of the campground bookings for you. Please click here to learn more. Unfortunately at this time, we do not do any a-la-carte itinerary services. However, we’re happy to send you a copy of our free Insider’s Guide that includes details and suggestions for the area you’re traveling in. Please visit this page to request one or contact us directly.
Can these vans travel up to Northern Canada and Alaska?
Our vans are ABSOLUTELY allowed to travel North of the Canadian Border. Whistler, Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper are some of the most popular places for renters to explore from our Whitefish and Seattle Locations. However, given the rugged and very remote regions of Northern Canada and Alaska, our renters are responsible for all repairs, breakdowns, and any and all related problems while traveling beyond the routes listed below. Note: The van may be operated in designated areas of Alaska, Yukon and Northwest Territories upon securing a written permit from Moterra management.
If future reservations are impacted by any delays that may result from your trip traveling beyond these routes, you may be responsible for loss of use.
Is mileage included?
Your reservation will include 100 miles per night, which is your total rental mileage – not a daily limit. If you know that you will exceed this included milage on your journey, you have the option to add ‘mileage bundles’ at a rate of $35 per 100 miles ahead of your trip. Any additional mileage will be charged at a rate of 50 cents per mile upon your return.
Do you rent outdoor equipment?
Yes! Home is where you park it when traveling with Moterra, and nothing beats waking up at the trailhead with a fully stocked van full of everything you need to hit that trail running! If booking an itinerary, our Trip Planning Service team can arrange to provide road and/or mountain bikes, fishing, climbing, backpacking, day-hiking gear and more; if you can dream it, our team will do everything they can to achieve it.
In select regions, we also offer a shopping service through our Trip Planning Service, so your van can be fully stocked with gourmet goodies before you pick up! Vacation never tasted so good.
Where should we camp?
The world is your oyster! More than anything, our vans offer freedom and the flexibility to go where you want, when you want. That said, we strongly recommend making campground reservations as soon as possible for sites in our National Parks during their busy summer months. There are also countless other campsites in surrounding National Forest and BLM lands not are not nearly as busy; they may require a bit of extra driving to get to, but that’s no problem when you’re in a comfortable Moterra campervan.
To take the guesswork and hassle out of your experience, let our Trip Planning Service team book for you. Vacation should start at home with the peace of mind that comes from letting experts build you a custom itinerary that includes all reservations – along with insider recommendations on favorite spots!
Where do I dump the greywater?
Greywater from your Moterra van should be dumped at a designated greywater dumping facility. These can often be found at campgrounds, gas stations or RV parks- try checking https://rvdumpsites.net/ to find the closest greywater dumping sites near you!
Can I take my van to Burning Man?
As much as we would love to be a part of your Burning Man experience, the notorious dust on The Playa is highly alkaline and corrosive to the vans electrical system. Therefore we have a blanket, ‘No Burning Man Policy.’ We wish you the best of luck in finding a vehicle that works for you!
Can I bring a dog?
You sure can! This is an available add-on at checkout and will incur an additional cleaning fee of $100.00.
Can I use my my CPAP, Hair Dryer, or Flat Iron in the van?
All of the above are considered high power draw items and will drain the auxiliary batteries quickly.
If you use a CPAP machine, you have two options:
If you want to use a hairdryer, straightener, electric griddle in the van, the van must be plugged into shore power. Generally speaking, appliances that produce heat are too large a draw on the battery system, without the support of shore power. If you have questions about your specific appliance, don’t hesitate to give us a call.
Renting in extra cold, or extra hot temps?
If you’re planning to rent in the winter, please ensure you’ve read through our Winter Rental Policy. Please note, we do move our vans according to seasons and do not have year-around availability in every location (though we are full support of your awesome ski trip!)
For the desert-dwellers out there, we want you to explore! However, we ask that you do not enter Death Valley National Park (you know, one of the hottest places in the USA) between the months of June-September. Thank you for your understanding!
Are Moterra vans allowed in Mexico?
Our vans are not allowed to travel into Mexico!
What is the difference between your vans?
The High-Roof, PopTop Classic, and PopTop Plus vans are all 4×4 Mercedes Sprinters, professionally built out by Sportsmobile. Both come with a full kitchen (two-burner propane stove, fridge, sink), are fully solar powered, and are 19ft in length, meaning that you can book tent camping sites in the National Parks. The major differences in the vans are in the bathroom and the sleeping arrangements. Both PopTop styles come with a portable toilet and an outdoor ambient temperature spray nozzle, primarily used to rinse-off boots. We have a solar shower available as an optional add-on that comes with a privacy tent and bamboo floor mat for your own outdoor shower oasis! The High Roof also comes with a portable toilet and an indoor hot water shower in an enclosed area. For sleeping, the PopTop Classic van offers two double beds (one down below, and one up in the pop-top), so is great for groups of up to 4. The PopTop Plus comes with one queen bed down below, and one double bed up top; a great option for families or those who prefer a little extra sleeping space. The High Roof offers a queen sized bed in the back, making it the perfect van for couples or couples with a small child.
What is the toilet like?
We offer a toilet to all reservations for all van types- if you decide when you arrive that you would not like to take the toilet with you, you can leave it at our warehouse. The Thetford Portapotti is a hassle-free seated option – you can see a video of how it works . Please note that toilets must be emptied before being returned to avoid incurring an additional cleaning fee of $150.
Which is better - an RV or a campervan?
We truly believe that a campervan is the ultimate home on wheels. While RVs are spacious, they are too large for many campsites and parking lots and can be difficult to drive. Moterra luxury vans are functional, reliable, easy to drive, and have all the same comforts as an RV, without being too unwieldy to parallel park, drive to the grocery store, or take down a one-way road. In other words, our campervans keep you mobile and free to explore far from – but without sacrificing the comforts of – home.
Is there heat and A/C in the vans?
All of our vans have A/C, when the vans are running. There is no A/C when you are parked. All of our vans have in-built heaters that run off the diesel, and can be used overnight.
Are the vans 4WD?
Yes! However, keep in mind that these are campervans, not off-road vehicles. As stated in our rental contract, we do ask that you stay on well-maintained dirt roads if planning to go ‘off the grid.’
How many seat belts do Moterra vans have?
Each Moterra van has at least 5 seat belts (many have 6, and one has 8!). In addition to the driver and passenger seats, the back seat of each Moterra van has 3-4 seat belts, at least one of which is a shoulder belt (some models have two shoulder belts in the back. As you’ve figured out by now, the specific seating/seat belt layout varies by van model, so please reach out if you’re at all confused.
Most importantly: all seat belts have been professionally installed and are safe for car seats and boosters.
Do we have to park in RV designated sites?
Moterra campervans are 19 feet long and are not required to park in RV designated spaces; you can park in any tent or car camping site accessible by car. You are more than welcome, of course, to reserve an RV site if you wish to use the RV site hookups.
As always, we are happy to give recommendations on campsites, and can also book them for you through our Trip Planning Service.
Do your vans have RV hook ups?
Yes, each Moterra campervan comes equipped with RV hookups – though they certainly don’t need them to function. Our goal is to keep you free to explore, even and especially if this means getting off the grid. Each Moterra luxury van comes with solar panels and batteries hooked up to the alternator, meaning that as long as you have sun and/or are in motion, you should never need to plug in. (Driving for just one hour fully charges the batteries!)
Each Moterra campervan also boasts a large water tank (16 or 24 gallons depending on the model), which typically lasts our guests about three days, though most of our hub towns, National Parks, and RV-friendly campgrounds have spots to refill should you need. If you use our Trip Planning Service, we will also include information on where to find water in your itinerary notes.
Do your vans have a tow hitch/bike rack?
Yes our vans all have a tow hitch (2″ receiver), and you can rent a bike rack from us that can carry up to 4 bikes at check-out.
Can I put a carseat in the van?
Yes! No matter which type of van you opt for, you’ll have at least one shoulder and one lap belt for a car seat. We do not have the latch and anchor system for car seats, but both a shoulder and lap belt work to install most types of car seats, front or rear facing. Please check on the details of your specific car seat to review installation and compatability.
